Changing Messages email accounts on your iPad

iPad_Jan02_CApple’s iPad is arguably the most popular tablet, favored by both business and individual users. The Messenger iPad app allows users to send free text messages to other iOS users, thus making communication easier and cheaper. Because most people who own an iPad have more than one email account – one for work, and one or more personal addresses – you need to ensure that you are sending emails from the correct address, and receiving them to the right address, too.

Here’s how to change which email address or account is used by Apple’s Messages app.

Changing the email address used by Messages

  1. Open your iPad’s Settings app.
  2. Tap on Messages which is located in the bar on the left.
  3. Select Send & Receive which is located to the right in the window that opens.

This will open your iMessages account list, with your main Apple ID at the top of the window. There will also be two sections below You can be reached by iMessage at: and Start new conversations from:.

Under You can be reached by iMessage at: you will see your existing email addresses. By pressing on the blue arrow you can edit or remove the account, which means instant messages and texts won’t be sent to that account. If you would like to add an email account, tap on Add Another Email…

Under the Start new conversations from: section you can select the account from which you would like to send new conversations.
