Secunia Reports Vulnerabilities are Everywhere

Secunia, a Software Vulnerability Management company, recently reported that during 2014, “the absolute number of vulnerabilities detected in software was 15,435, discovered in 3,870 applications from 500 vendors. The number shows a 55% increase in the five year trend, and a 18% increase from 2013 to 2014.

These statistics are frightening to me, and should be to you, especially if your computer systems are not being properly patched. Their report validates our philosophy that software patching is NOT just about running Windows Update once a month. That only patches the operating system and selective Microsoft products. The reality is that ANY and ALL software running on our computer systems needs to be patched to protect us from the possibility of becoming another statistic. This requires disciplined processes, knowledge, skills, and persistence. One Pillar of our TechCare managed service offering is focused solely on protecting our clients from these exploitable vulnerabilities.
